I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Houston about 1 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is average.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 13 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
