Pros and cons of DeBary after 6 years

Hey, I'm a remote worker and Poverty rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,479 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Raleigh about 14 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is improving in most areas.

Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Downtown area are improving. Kids love it here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 3 years. Moved from Nashville for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Rising rent and home prices. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
