I'm a 50-year-old software engineer and Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Decatur sits at 148.2 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What do you all think? Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in construction. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Good luck with whatever you decide..
