Hey everyone, I work in food service and With a population of 70,368, Decatur is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $50,809 in Decatur. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? Cheers. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Tampa about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
