Curious what people think. Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $630,400 on average.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 5 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Chicago about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
