Anyone else feel this way? Been living here since 2006. The median home value here is around $630,400, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Dedham? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Bought a house here in 2016 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 47, moved here 11 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Pine Hills and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The walkability situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for work and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The housing market is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I work in legal here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is tough. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.
