Not sure if this has been asked before, but Crime rate is something to consider -Deer Park sits at 140.5 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I'm a real estate agent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 39, moved here 10 years ago from Denver. I've lived in The Heights and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The public transit situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 8 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Fairview) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- The dating scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

If you value school system, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely underrated and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
