Cost of living reality check -Deerfield Beach

First post here. Crime rate is something to consider -Deerfield Beach sits at 430.1 per 100K. With a population of 86,742, Deerfield Beach is a smaller city. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Let me know your thoughts. TIA!

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 52, moved here 2 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in North and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The nightlife situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Maple Ridge area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Denver it's excellent.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Austin about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Came here for retirement and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The public transit is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 1 years. Moved from Seattle for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Limited entertainment options. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
