We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Oak Park area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Westside for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The healthcare scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 49, moved here 14 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Pine Hills and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

2. Can feel isolated

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The traffic is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 9 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
