Anyone else feel this way? The unemployment rate is 10.0%, which is concerning. Poverty rate is 15.3%, which is higher than I expected. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Downtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great Korean places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 10 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a electrician and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much growing but now it's decent.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Seattle about 8 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
