Living in Del Rio -the reality

Anyone else feel this way? I'm single, late 50s, and You can expect to pay around $892 for rent here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What are your go-to spots? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The safety is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Phoenix about 6 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Phoenix it's underrated.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 12 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
