Is DeLand getting better or worse?

So, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The median home value here is around $303,500, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 70--F, so it's warm year-round. With a population of 39,832, DeLand is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -DeLand sits at 574.5 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 5 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.
