Relocating to DeLand, FL -pros and cons?

Longtime lurker here, With a population of 39,832, DeLand is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Does this match your experience? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Moved here from Austin about 7 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to cost of living but No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from LA about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is tough.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..
