Considering Delano vs Miami -help me decide

Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 14.0%, which is around average. The unemployment rate is 6.2%, which is concerning. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Worth the trade-offs?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Oak Park area are average. Kids love it here.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The housing market is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great craft beer places. it's been a really good experience overall.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 10 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely underrated and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (North) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 49, moved here 9 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Westside and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The pet-friendliness situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The school system is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
