How is Delmar for outdoor activities?

Curious what people think. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. With a population of 4,058, Delmar is a small town. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a small town city with about 4,058 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What would you do? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The traffic is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in West for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- The healthcare scene is solid

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Austin about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Austin it's decent.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Old Town for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The outdoor recreation scene is solid

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 44, moved here 6 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The weather situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
