Hey, I've been here for 20 years and With a population of 147K, Denton is a mid-size city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

Bought a house here in 2020 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely average and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..
