The median home value here is around $586,700, which is pretty steep. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I've lived in Fairview for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The weather scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Indian.
No regrets on my end..

- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 48, moved here 9 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Greenfield and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Can feel isolated
3. The weather situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.
