Pros and cons of Derby after 5 years

Hey everyone, Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I work in marketing here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is decent. Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much pricey but now it's better than expected.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in retail. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Hope this helps!.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
