Is it worth buying in Dermott?

Military spouse here. Household incomes average around $25,518 in Dermott. With a population of 2,727, Dermott is a small town. Rent is about $627/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 33.9%, which is higher than I expected. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Downtown area are decent. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
