What surprised you most about Derry?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm retired and Poverty rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Does this match your experience? Thanks! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The safety is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
