Alright, Been living here since 2015. You can expect to pay around $1,727 for rent here. The median home value here is around $539,800, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Des Moines sits at 262.9 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Any advice would be great. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 2 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor recreation is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to San Diego it's better than expected.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Greenfield for 7 years. Moved from Seattle for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Property taxes are high. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
