Been meaning to ask this. With a population of 32,545, Des Moines is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 6.2%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What are your go-to spots? Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.
