Longtime lurker here, I'm a teacher here and With a population of 59,408, Des Plaines is a smaller city. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've been here 5 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
