Top 5 things I love about Des Plaines

Anyone else feel this way? My partner and I are Poverty rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,435 for rent here. Median household income is $94,303, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 59,408 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Walkable downtown
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Limited nightlife
- Few job opportunities in some fields
Would love some local perspective. Thanks for reading. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 50, moved here 9 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Riverside and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The job market situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
