Desert Hot Springs job market vs Portland

Alright, I relocated for work and Homes are going for about $309,300 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Desert Hot Springs sits at 876.1 per 100K. Poverty rate is 15.5%, which is higher than I expected. The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which is about average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Would love some local perspective. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
