What I wish I knew before living in Destin

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Rent is about $1,913/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 14,018 people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Any advice would be great. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I've been in Midtown for 6 years. Moved from Austin for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Can feel isolated. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
