Anyone else love living in Destrehan?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but We have two kids and Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. The unemployment rate is 6.7%, which is concerning. Crime rate is something to consider -Destrehan sits at 235.7 per 100K. Household incomes average around $100,189 in Destrehan. Homes are going for about $303,400 on average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Growing food scene
- Active local events
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Sprawl everywhere
Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Seattle it's improving.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Pine Hills area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 12 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Can feel isolated. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The walkability is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- The weather scene is decent

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..
