How is Destrehan for outdoor activities?

Hey, I'm a teacher here and The median home value here is around $303,400, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $303,400 on average. Median household income is $100,189, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Destrehan sits at 235.7 per 100K. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 40, moved here 1 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Oak Park and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited shopping options
3. The traffic situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
