Transplant from Detroit. Been here 3 months now. The community in Brush Park is really tight-knit.
The weather averaging 52F year-round is {weather_feel}. Unemployment at 7.7% is {unemp_feel}.
What I like:
- Nice downtown area
- Easy to meet people
- Good airport
- Diverse neighborhoods
- Pet-friendly city
What I don't:
- Nightlife is lacking
- Hard to date here
The parks system here is underrated. The parks system here is underrated.

Night shift worker - Detroit at 3am is solid. Traffic has gotten noticeably worse in the past year..

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Detroit.
Background: 29, freelancer, moved from Portland 11 years ago for school. Currently in Corktown.
**Housing:**
The market is improving right now. We went with Corktown because it felt safe. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Indian Village - it's established and the value is better.
**Work:**
finance jobs are growing here. I was worried coming from Portland but the market is solid. Salary-wise, expect about 10-15% less than coastal cities.
**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 13 months were tough. Then I found my people through neighbors. Now I have a solid group. Detroit people are genuine once you break through.
**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: about average
- Traffic: depends entirely on your commute route
- Dining out: amazing variety
- Entertainment: great if you like outdoor stuff
**Would I move here again?**
Nightlife is decent if you know where to go.. For students, I'd give it a 8/10.
Feel free to DM me with specific questions - happy to help fellow newcomers.

Parent of two in Grandmont. Schools are underrated here. The suburbs vs city debate here is real.. Would recommend visiting before deciding.

Honestly it depends on what you prioritize. If affordability matters most, then yeah Detroit is great. But if you need public transit, might want to look at Grandmont instead.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Detroit.
Background: 30, single mom, moved from Charlotte 6 years ago for quality of life. Currently in West Village.
**Housing:**
The market is pretty good right now. We went with West Village because it was walkable. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Bagley - it's pricey and the value is better.
**Work:**
finance jobs are tough here. I was worried coming from Charlotte but the market is promising. Salary-wise, expect competitive for the cost of living.
**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 5 months were tough. Then I found my people through a church group. Now I have a solid group. Detroit people are warm once you break through.
**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: about average
- Traffic: manageable if you avoid rush hour
- Dining out: better than you'd expect
- Entertainment: solid local scene
**Would I move here again?**
The {industry} scene here is really picking up.. For remote workers, I'd give it a 6/10.
