Top 5 things I love about Detroit

Alright, You can expect to pay around $1,034 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 7.7%, which is concerning. With a population of 637K, Detroit is a major city. Household incomes average around $39,575 in Detroit. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I wrong here? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely tough and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Highland) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
