Working remotely from Detroit

Curious what people think. I'm single, late 30s, and Poverty rate is 26.9%, which is higher than I expected. The unemployment rate is 7.7%, which is concerning. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely challenging and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Midtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
