Moving from Dallas to Dexter next month

Hello, I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $717 for rent here. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I wrong here? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 48, moved here 14 years ago from LA. I've lived in West and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for retirees. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.
