Worst things about Dickinson nobody talks about

Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 16 years and Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 29, moved here 15 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in North and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Mediterranean places. it was the best decision I ever made.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from New York about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..
