Random thought, I'm single, late 30s, and You can expect to pay around $951 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Portland about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been here 4 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
