Dickson in the winter -how bad?
Hey, The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 5 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is improving in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely tough and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (South) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
