OK so I'm retired and Poverty rate is 11.4%, which is around average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What are your go-to spots? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
