Affordable areas near Dix Hills?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Just moved here 15 months ago and Homes are going for about $891,400 on average. Rent is about $2,804/month for a decent place. The suburbs are where most families end up. Appreciate any input.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Boston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.
