Hey everyone, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $58,371 in Dixon. Median household income is $58,371, which feels about average for the area. With a population of 15,166, Dixon is a small town. Rent is about $865/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What do you all think? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Pittsburgh it's average.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 5 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And housing market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
