Thinking about relocating to Dobbs Ferry from San Francisco

Alright, I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $2,346/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is tough in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much pricey but now it's improving.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Westside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Downtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
- The safety scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
