My family moved here when I was a kid. The median home value here is around $196,200, which is actually reasonable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The nightlife is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 8 years. Moved from Boston for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Not very walkable outside downtown. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 12 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.
