First post here. Household incomes average around $60,618 in Doraville. It's a a small town city with about 10,738 people. Homes are going for about $297,700 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Doraville? Any help is appreciated. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Austin about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Southern.
