My partner and I are Household incomes average around $55,052 in Dothan. Homes are going for about $186,600 on average. Poverty rate is 14.5%, which is around average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I overthinking this? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely tough and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to New York it's underrated.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 4 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Highland) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

I've lived in West for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The dating scene scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..
