What Dothan does better than anywhere else

Random thought, Crime rate is something to consider -Dothan sits at 41.4 per 100K. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 71,118, Dothan is a smaller city. Rent is about $912/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Worth the trade-offs? The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much affordable but now it's hit or miss.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely underrated and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Springfield) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 57, moved here 15 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Downtown and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Property taxes are high
3. The school system situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 51, moved here 7 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Eastside and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The healthcare situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely improving and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 2 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in South for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The community vibe scene is decent

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
