Longtime lurker here, I'm a college student here and Homes are going for about $169,000 on average. With a population of 1,153, Douglas is a small town. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Does this match your experience? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Charlotte about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is average.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.
