First post here. My partner and I are Median household income is $39,350, which feels on the lower side for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Is this normal for Douglas? Thanks in advance!

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (West) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is solid in most areas.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to San Diego it's improving.

Bought a house here in 2016 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much established but now it's better than expected.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..
