Moving to Douglas City for work -advice?

Hi all, We're a young couple and With a population of 1,025, Douglas City is a small town. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Does this match your experience? Thanks in advance! Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is average in most areas.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'm a real estate agent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

I work in government here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is excellent. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
