Pros and cons of Douglas after 14 years

Hello, My partner and I are Rent is about $704/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 11,720 people. You can expect to pay around $704 for rent here. Household incomes average around $37,979 in Douglas. Homes are going for about $136,100 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
