Hi all, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and It's a a smaller city city with about 36,284 people. Median household income is $76,591, which feels about average for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Douglasville sits at 525.9 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 10 years. Moved from Chicago for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Homeless population growing downtown. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The pet-friendliness is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Dallas about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is tough.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 11 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
