Raising a family in Dover -thoughts?

First post here. I'm a remote worker and It's a a smaller city city with about 39,491 people. Rent is about $1,252/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 14.5%, which is around average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Good job market
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- Limited cultural events
Should I be concerned? The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely improving and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Sunset) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is challenging in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 51, moved here 10 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Springfield and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited public transit options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in tech. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Definitely worth checking out..
