First post here. Just moved here 13 months ago and The median home value here is around $398,500, which seems about average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 5 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Portland about 6 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..
